resigned

When you leaned down to kiss me with your mouth slightly open I thought that things could be like they were before. That we could want each other in the same way, need each other in the same way. But we don't. We still need. We still want. But maybe not each other. I'm so tired now, of hoping to go back, of trying to retrieve feelings that have changed, shifted into something that isn't destruction or anger or grief but just comfort and safety. Maybe that's what it all boils down to in the end.
